Core Duo: Intel’s Best CPU Ever?

The Tech Report is reporting that Intel’s Core Duo CPU maybe their best CPU ever. They took a Core Duo along with a new desktop/mini motherboard that supports it, and tested it against several desktop and mobile systems (including different CPU platforms from Intel, AMD, etc.).

Quote:

Based on what we’ve seen, one can’t help but conclude the Core Duo’s performance per watt is unmatched in the world of PC processors. The Core Duo is obviously the best mobile CPU on the market, more than doubling the peak performance of the Pentium M while operating in the same power envelope. What’s more shocking is the fact that the Core Duo T2600’s outright performance is easily superior to Intel’s supposed flagship desktop processor, the Pentium Extreme Edition 965

They go on to mention that if one could overclock the T2600 (2.16GHz), it could overtake the AMD Athlon’s speed titles (or at least come very close).

The Core Duos are currently shipping in several ultraportable notebooks including the ASUS W5F, ThinkPad X60, the MSI S262, the Panasonic Toughbook CF-74, and the Toshiba M400 Tablet PC.
