Review: Toshiba Portege R400 (BusinessWeek.com)

Toshiba Portege R400 GottaBeMobile.com has news of a new review of the Toshiba Portege R400 from BusinessWeek.com. The Portege R400 is one of the “convertible” ultraportables – it’s 12.1-inch touchscreen display flips around and allows you to turn it into a Tablet-PC. It’s powered by one of Intel’s Core Duo CPUs – the Ultra Low Voltage 1.2GHz U2500, which is surprising given the size of this laptop/convertible.

Ian Sager did the review of the R400-S4931 model (loaded with Windows Vista), and while he gave 3 out of 5 stars, he was not pleased with the performance:

So why not a higher rating? The R400-S4931 will set you back $3,499. For that, I expected more under the hood than a 1.2-GHz Core Duo Processor and an 80-GB hard drive, especially when competitors are selling tablet PCs with similar specifications for a fraction of the price. Take the Lenovo ThinkPad X60 Tablet, for example. It boasts a 100-GB hard drive and a 1.83-GHz Intel Core Duo Processor, yet it is sold for $1,823.
