In his Personal Technology columm for the Wall Street Journal (subscription maybe required), Walt Mossberg has reviewed two new offerings from Dell and Toshiba, the Dell XPS M1330 and the Toshiba Portege R500.
The Toshiba Portege R500 weighs in at around 2.5 pounds and has an LED-backlit display. The XPS M1330 offers an LED-backlit display as an option as well, and weighs just under 4 pounds.
He wasn’t happy with the Portege’s build, DVD drive, and included software, saying I had the impression that this was a computer you’d have to treat gently….. And it was loaded with the trial software and offers I call craplets while he thought the M1330 felt solid through and through, lacking only decent battery life.
