Review: Acer TravelMate 6291 (PC Magazine)

Acer TravelMate 6291 Yesterday, PC Magazine published their review of the Acer TravelMate 6291. Why the TravelMate 6291 instead of the Acer TravelMate 6292? Most likely a 6292 was not available at press-time.

The 6292 is based on Intel’s Santa Rosa platform – the 6291 is based on the Mobile Intel® 945GM Express chipset and uses Intel’s Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950 to drive the 12.1″ widescreen display, along with an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU.. Keep in mind that the two machines are nearly identical, but for the chipsets. For wireless, Acer does offer the Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN (802.11n), and without the optical drive, you are looking at an ultraportable right at four pounds.

PC Magazine wasn’t too impressed, giving it a “Fair” rating and 2.5 out of 5, giving it low marks mainly for battery life (as noted, their complaints about Windows Vista performance were fixed with more memory).
