For those in the UK who bought the 8.9-inch Eee PC 900 and were wondering what happened to the battery, it looks like Asus is talking about the issue and trying to clear a few things up.
The North American Eee PC 900s, as well as its smaller brother, the 7-inch Asus Eee PC 701, are running of of 5800mAh batteries.
The Eee PC 900s in the UK are being sold with 4400mAh batteries – a decrease of about 25%. This is a similar situation to one that happened in Hong Kong (although apparently Hong Kong customers were able to get a free upgrade).
Register Hardware obtained the following statement from an Asus UK spokeswoman:
Asus offers different solutions in different markets. In EU countries, we use 4400mAh [with the] Eee 900. However, we give a two-year warranty within the country you bought the Eee 900.
Needless to say, many people would prefer to have the longer battery life and a shorter warranty.
