Fujitsu LifeBook P1630 at the FCC

August 31, 2008

Fujtisu LifeBook p1610 Last week we mentioned that supplies of the convertible 8.9-inch Fujitsu LifeBook P1610 and P1620 seemed to be drying up and that a sequel might be on the way.

That sequel has shown up at the FCC in the US. It’s very similar to the past P-series models, with updated chipsets (including a major graphics chipset update) and CPUs.

The users manual is included at the FCC site.

Both Windows XP Tablet PC and Vista are mentioned in the manual, and there are two CPU choices, both still Ultra Low Voltage (ULV).

Specifications from the FCC Test model and manual:

Details about Dell Inspiron 910 - Support Docs

August 29, 2008

Dell Inspiron 910 There’s some more information about the 8.9-inch Dell Inspiron 910, and this time it’s coming straight from Dell’s support pages.

As we had already guessed, while the Function (Fn) keys were physically removed, they still exist as a subset of the normal keys (although not on the numeric keys across the top, but instead on the middle row of letters (A, S, D, etc.). There’s also an explanation about the power LED light (sleep, hibernate, etc.). The USB-powered external drive is mentioned, and I’m going with Liliputing on it being optional.

Dell Inspiron 13 Review (NBR), Availability

August 28, 2008

Dell Inspiron 13 JerryJ at NotebookReview.com has posted a review of the new 13.3-inch Dell Inspiron 13. The Inspiron 13 is a budget-oriented laptop from Dell (select models are even being sold through Wal-Mart). This is one of the first reviews of the Inspiron 13, and they believe it will end up being popular with its target audience (given the price).

Just because it’s budget-oriented though, doesn’t mean it’s lacking decent features - it has a set of capacitive touch multimedia controls, it’s got a dual-layer 8x speed slot-loading DVD writer (even on the $699 model), and it’s got a wide range of Intel CPUs (although the starting Core Duo T2390 is not too impressive - it definitely is worth it to upgrade the CPU), handling up to 4GB of RAM. It’s also got a 54mm Express slot, 3 mini-card slots (internally), and it even has a firewire port (something a lot of budget computers don’t have).

The Inspiron 13s are starting to pop up at Dell.com, with quite a few models starting at $699. These are just a few of the models currently available in the US through Dell.com’s Inspiron Page:
- Dell Inspiron 13 - $699: Intel Core Duo T2390 (1.86GHz, 1MB L2, 533MHz FSB), 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Dell Wireless 1395 802.11a/g, 4-cell battery(Shipping 9/10/2008)
- Dell Inspiron 13 - $799 : Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 (2GHz, 2MB L2, 667MHz FSB), 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Dell Wireless 1395 802.11g Mini-Card, 4-cell battery (Shipping 9/10/2008)

Albatron Tee PC Announced

August 27, 2008

Albatron Tee PC Albatron Technology has just announced the Albatron Tee PC. It’s a “Mini Tablet PC” which was shown off at Computex 2008 a few months ago. Now it’s ready to hit the market.

It doesn’t have a physical keyboard, it’s completely touchscreen (although a docking station is included which allows for a USB keyboard). It’s also running Windows Mobile 6.0 and is powered by a 400MHz ARM 926 CPU. It also comes with both WiFi and Bluetooth.

Size:
- 188mm x 113mm x 12.9 mm
- (7.4″ x 4.45″ x 0.5″)

Weight: 343g / 0.75 pounds

I’m mentioning this device (and unfortunately don’t have a price or shipping date handy) because it’s got a nice display - the display is 7-inches, with a resolution of 800×480 - quite a bit bigger than your typical PDA dispay. Hopefully the display at least can find its way into the netbooks (although Microsoft has indicated that’s not going to happen, at least with Windows XP Home).

MSI Wind U100 - USB DVD Drive

August 27, 2008

MSI Wind U100 MSI has designed a new USB-powered ultra-slim DVD drive for netbooks (for MSI’s Wind U100 but I’m sure they wouldn’t mind selling a bunch to Acer and Eee PC owners as well).

It’s called the MSI Wind Drive, with an aluminum chassis, and it’s not much bigger width / length wise than a DVD.

It’s powered through a USB 2.0 connection (the USB cable has a Y / splitter that allows you to plug it into two USB ports if one is not providing enough power). It can read and write CDs and DVDs and can even burn Dual-Layer DVDs .

Fudzilla says it’ll be available by the middle of September with a price of around €45 (around $65 USD).

Dell Studio XPS 13 Leaked

August 27, 2008

Dell Logo Over at the NotebookReview.com forums, somebody has posted some leaked Dell presentations. Among the more interesting slides / pictures, there was one for the 13.3″ Dell Studio XPS 13, which is coming in November.

It looks nice, and could be a serious rival to the MacBook Air, Vodoo Envy 133, and Lenovo ThinkPad X300. “Premium materials and designs with focus on fit and finish” is mentioned prominently.

Specifications:
- Slot loading Blu-Ray dirve
- Intel Motevina platform
- HDMI Output, Hybrid SLI graphics (wow)
- “Capacitive Multi-Media Buttons”
- Backlit keyboard
- Mobile Broadband options
- WiMax Options
- Bluetooth/UWB Support
- Webcam, biometric security
- E-SATA port

It also mentions that the display is “Edge to edge glass (floating display)” which is really interesting - they did not have any pictures of the display itself, but that’s the first I’ve heard of such a display.

This is going to be a very high-end laptop when it’s released.
