Asus Eee PC 1004DN Announced

Asus Eee PC Asustek has announced a new 10.2″ netbook, with a twist, and I’m not talking about the Eee PC T91 Touch or the Eee PC T101H with their rotating displays, although this netbook appears to share the same keyboard as the T101H.

No, this is an Eee PC with an internal optical drive – a DVD writer and CD/DVD reader.

It’s the Eee PC 1004DN It’s based on the 10.2″ Eee PC 1002HA, complete with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU.

I have no idea on the amount of weight this has, although it manages to stay just 1″ (25.4mm) thick.

Dimensions:
Width: 10.4 inches / 264 mm
Depth: 7.1 inches / 180 mm
Height: 1 inches / 25.4 mm

There’s no information on cost, and it appears that it might only be available in Asia (China) and Europe initially, although hopefully that will change.

Most of using netbooks don’t really need an optical drive, or we have USB optical drives, but this is one of those things that will probably bring more people into the market. Of course it raises the expectations people are going to have about what you can do with these devices, you can’t get around aspect, but there is a demand, I think.
