Gigabyte M912V - Availability, Pricing

Akihabara News is reporting that Gigabyte announced today that the Gigabyte M912, wait, make that the Intel-Atom powered Gigabyte M912V, is now available (at least in Taiwan).
This has been an eagerly anticipated entry in the numerous netbooks or sub-notebooks, mainly because it’s one of the first to offer an 8.9-inch touchscreen display (with a nice resolution of 1280×768) and because it comes with a higher capacity hard drive than most other devices in this range. It also has an ExpressCard slot.
The price is actually better than I expected - 450€ (about $706 USD). This could definitely put some pressure on Fujitsu in regards to the 8.9-inch Fujitsu LifeBook P1620, as that’s around half the price of the P1620. The P1620 does have a much beefier CPU and battery life, but when you are talking half the price…
Other M912V Specs:
- 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU
- 2.5″ SATA 160GB HDD
- 1 GB of Memory (which maybe the maximum)
- Optional HSDPA capability
- 1.3MP Camera
If it runs Windows Vista Home (which is what’s being said), and only has 1GB maximum memory (it was reported earlier to have only one memory slot, and wasn’t upgradeable), I have my doubts about the performance.

Eee PC 901 - Unboxing, Impressions (LAPTOP Mag)

Joanna Stern over at LAPTOP Magazine has acquired the latest netbook from Asus, their 8.9-inch Intel Atom-powered Eee PC 901.
She’s posted several photos of the packaging and of the Eee PC 901 itself, as well as her first impressions. As she noted, it has a slightly bigger footprint than the Eee PC 900 (powered by an Intel Celeron instead of an Atom), and this model was running Windows XP.
It’s actually an interesting read about how she acquired it as well - she and a few fellow tech journalists ventured into Taipei’s computer market, in the Kauanghua Plaza area, and it took them 10 tries before she was able to find somebody that had one in stock.

Asus Eee PC 1000 All But Officially Confirmed

Looks like there could be a slightly bigger version of the 8.9-inch Eee PC 900 announced at the upcoming Computex 2008 in Taipei, Taiwan (which takes place next week).
UMPC Fever is reporting on an invitation sent out with a note from Asus’ Chairman Jonney Shih, that mentioned the an official global launch of the Intel Atom-based Eee PC 901 as well as the “1000 series”.
This after an article from PC World just over a month ago that mentioned comments made by Jerry Shen, the CEO of Asustek in regards to larger versions of the Eee PC series. The comments specifically mentioned 10-inch models (that DigiTimes referred to as the Eee PC 10001).
I would guess that a 10-inch series would be powered by Intel Atom CPUs at this point, since the market for the Celeron M based Eee PCs would rapidly dry up once the Atoms are available in the 8.9-inch Eee PC 901s.

Everex CloudBook and Windows XP

Could it be that the 7-inch Everex CloudBook is finally getting Microsoft Windows XP?
It is if you are buying it in Taiwan and you are specifically buying the Everex gBook SC1200T.
The 1.2GHz VIA C7-powered ultraportable device was spotted with a box listing the above model number along with “Windows XP” and “Adobe Reader”.
In addition to Windows XP, it’s listed with 1GB of memory and the normal 30GB HDD.

Eee PC 901 - Unveiling, WiMAX, Eee PC 900 - 2GB Memory

AVING is confirming that the Eee PC 901 (remember, they dropped the “Asus” bit) will be unveiled at Computex 2008 in Taiwan (right around two weeks from now). Hopefully Asustek and MSI won’t be the only ones showing off Intel Atom-powered netbooks.
DigiTimes is reporting that Asustek is dropping WiMAX from the Eee PC 901 because, in their words, they feel that the WiMAX market will not reach maturity in 2008. They will be adding it to some of their other ultraportable laptops (in the 12-inch range) as well as up to 15-inch range.
In Asus Eee PC 900 news, over at the LAPTOP Magazine blog, they’ve upped the memory on Xandros/Linux-powered Eee PC 900 from 1GB to 2GB (pictures included) and haven’t noticed too much of a difference.
HP 2133 Mini-Note PC in Korea

HP Korea has officially announced the launchy of it’s 8.9-inch HP 2133 Mini-Note PC.
It’s being dubbed the “Mini” in Korea and the ultraportable notebook appears to have the same specifications as the 2133 Mini-Note that is already available in North America.
AVING.net has a couple of pictures of it, as well as a customized cover image.
The MSRP is between 790,000(KRW) and 890,000(KRW) which works out to roughly $755 - $850 (due to exchange rates and options - no word on whether the $755 model is Linux-based or Windows-based).
