Announced: Averatec 2575
March 21, 2008
Averatec has added the Averatec 2575 to their ultraportable lineup.
It has a 12.1″ widescreen display, and weighs in at just under four pounds. This will probably replace the Averatec 2371. The main upgrade is the CPU, a 2.2GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-64 dual-core CPU, and an upgraded ATI chipset and graphics chipset - ATI Radeon X1250 or X1200.
It has an internal dual-layer DVD writer, and with the upgraded graphics chipset, it will be able to support Microsoft Windows Vista’s Aero Glass interface.
It’s available now and retails for $1099.99 at ShopAveratec.com.
Review: Averatec 1579 (LAPTOP Magazine)
July 31, 2007
LAPTOP Magazine has published their review of the Averatec 1579.
The Averatec 1579 is Averatec’s first dip into the waters of the 11.1″ widescreen market, and they are doing it at a price point that Sony and others aren’t matching - typically under $1300 - $1400. That will get you an ultraportable that weighs in under 3.5 pounds, and is powered by an Intel Core Duo U2400 Ultra Low Voltage CPU, while still retaining an optical drive (a DVD writer no less).
Averatec has always targeted their laptops towards those on a budget, and it shows, with LAPTOP Magazine saying “no system under four pounds offers better bang for your buck“.

Review: Averatec 1579 (CNET)
July 21, 2007
CNET has published a review of one of Averatec’s 11.1-inch 1500 laptop line (so far the only laptop in the line), the Averatec 1579, giving it a 7.2 out of 10.
The Averatec 1579 has an 11.1″ widescreen (1366×768 WXGA) display, and while it’s a bit heavier (3.4 pounds or so) than other 11.1″ ultraportables, it’s a lot cheaper (It can be had for around $1300 or so, depending on store), and it has an internal Dual-Layer DVD Writer. You are limited on memory (1GB maximum), and hard drive space (120GB), but that’s part of what helps keep Averatec’s costs down.
It is powered by an Intel Core Duo 1.06GHz CPU (the Ultra Low Voltage - ULV - U2400) which is not the best performance wise, but contributes to everything else (longer battery life, smaller size due to lowered cooling requirements).
Excerpt from the review:
The $1,299 system lacks frills such as media control buttons or a Webcam (yet manages to cram a DVD burner into its tiny chassis), and the performance from its low-voltage Core Duo CPU disappoints, but its good looks, solid construction, and great battery life make this a laptop we’d happily take on the road.

Top 10 Ultraportable/Small Laptops of April 2006
May 1, 2006
Once again it’s time for the Top 10 Ultraportable/Small Notebooks of the month, for April 2006. This list is based on reader interest (which is in turn based on page views, links, etc.). Not the most scientific, but surprisingly it’s been fairly consistent. The only major changes occur when a new notebook is released, but unless it’s an outstanding notebook, the list goes back to what it was before.
Note: It’s really a top 11 list, when you seperate out the ThinkPad X60 and X60s as we’ve done.
1)ASUS W5F - #1 Since January - wow.
2)Fujitsu Q2010 - Newcomer
3)Fujitsu P1510D - #2 in March
4)MSI S262 - #7 in March
5)ThinkPad X60S - #5 in March
6)Fujitsu Pro V3205 - Newcomer
7)ThinkPad X60 - #3 in March
Dell Inspiron 700M - #4 in March
9)Toshiba M400 Tablet PC - #6 in March
10)Flybook V3 - #9 in March
11)Averatec 1050 - #10 in March
Stats of the list:
* Two newcomers, both from Fujitsu (Q2010 and V3205)
* Seven based on Intel Core Duo or Core Solor CPUs (or derivatives)
* Just as in March, three were convertibles - they have both a Touchscreen/Tablet PC interface as well as a physical keyboard (Fujitsu P1510D, Toshiba M400, Flybook V3).
* Three had displays smaller than 11 inches (Flybook, Fujitsu P1510D, Averatec).
* Two are “budget” ultraportables - the Dell 700M and the Averatec 1050.
Announced: Averatec 2200 Series
April 27, 2006

Averatec has announced their ultraportable 2200 series notebook lineup. It features AMD processors, a 12.1-inch 1280×800 widescreen display, Dual-Layer DVD Burner in all models, and an 80GB or 100GB harddrive, along with up to 2GB of system memory. They weigh in at 4lbs, and look to be available now. The Turion 64 MT-32 CPUs offer both 32-bit and 64-bit features/performance.
Models:
- 2225-EH1: AMD Mobile AMD Sempron™ 3300+ (2.0GHz), Windows® XP Home, 80GB HDD, 512MB Memory (Start at $899)
- 2260-EH1: AMD Turion™ 64 MT-32 (1.8GHz), Windows® XP Home, 80GB HDD, 512 MB Memory (Start at $949)
- 2260-EK1: AMD Turion™ 64 MT-32 (1.8GHz), Windows® XP Professional , 80GB HDD, 1GB Memory (Start at $1079)
- 2260-EY1:AMD Turion™ 64 MT-32 (1.8GHz), Windows® XP Home, 100GB HDD, 1GB Memory (Start at $999)
Averatec’s other notebook offerings have proven to be very popular, in large part due to the low-price, and small size. To be quite honest, it would appear that the 2225 series is not a good deal, since $50 more will get you the Turion-based series - the Semprons have 128KB L2 Cache versus the Turion’s 512KB L2 Cache. That’s very significant, putting aside processor performance.
