Review: Everex CloudBook (LAPTOP Magazine)

February 18, 2008

Everex Cloudbook It would appear that LAPTOP Magazine was not too impressed with the Everex CloudBook, one of the first major ultraportables (or is that sub-ultraportable) that is taking on the Asus EEE PC.

You can browse through their blog entries about the CloudBook here (blog.LaptopMag.com).

Some of the problems encountered:
- Internet connectivity
- Almost three minutes to boot
- Long loadtimes of some websites/videos
- Fair amount of heat

Interesting entries to read if you are interested in the CloudBook (which is running for around $399.99 if you can find them).

The Future of the Everex CloudBook

February 7, 2008

Everex Cloudbook LAPTOP Magazine had a chance to talk about the future of the Everex CloudBook with Paul C. Kim, who is the Director of Marketing at Everex.

Kim had quite a lot to say about future versions of the CloudBook. Among the things he revealed:
- The possibility of a Solid State Drive (SSD) in a future version of the CloudBook.
- In the third quarter of 2008, there should be a touch screen version of the CloudBook available (developers should have development versions of the touchscreen CloudBook by the end of April)
- “Feminine” Colors will be available as options for the CloudBook.
- There will be a 9-inch version of the CloudBook, with versions possibly going all the way up to 22″.

It’s a fairly long interview and worth checking out: LAPTOP Magazine

Everex CloudBook Selling Out Before Launch?

February 7, 2008

Everex Cloudbook It would appear that the Everex CloudBook is going to be a hit. The 7″ VIA-based competitor to the Asus Eee PC has already sold out at ZaReason and it hasn’t even been released yet. ZaReason has this message on their CloudBook page:

We have currently sold our initial batch of Cloudbooks. Please check back after Feb 15th to see if we have received more stock by then. Thank you for your interest.

As Engadget mentions, it hasn’t even shown up for sale on Everex’s own site, so it’s a little odd.
