Fujitsu P1610/1620 - Price Cuts, Replacements?
August 25, 2008
The Fujitsu LifeBook P1610 and P1620 supplies seem to be drying up.
With all of the netbooks coming out with similar-sized 8.9″ displays and decent battery life, a lot of us have wondered what Fujitsu would do. Of course, only a few netbooks offer touchscreen / Tablet PC-style displays like Fujitsu’s P-series, but they definitely aren’t matching the performance of the P-series since Fujitsu used a normal-sized ULV CPU in there. They did have the advantage of being %50 - %75 cheaper.
Chippy over at UMPC Portal posted about some huge price cuts over in Europe with the P-series. We are talking close to $1,100 USD (around 800 Euros). That’s a big price cut and drops it down into what I would consider to be a high-end netbook range.
I’ve noticed that the P1610s and P1620s are getting harder to find at various online retailers - you can still purchase them from Fujitsu, with almost immediate shipping, but they are getting hard to get elsewhere. We saw this with the Fujitsu U810 / U1010 when it was about to be replaced. We’ve also seen some recent rumors regarding an Intel Atom-powered Fujitsu Netbook.
Is Fujitsu about to announce something new in the 8.9″ range?
Fujitsu LifeBook T5010 - First Impressions (GBM, TabletPC2)
August 22, 2008
Earlier this week, GottaBeMobile and TabletPc2 published their first impressions / first look at the new 13.3-inch convertible Fujitsu LifeBook T5010.
The T5010 is Fujitsu’s flagship convertible ultraportable (converting between a Tablet PC-like form factor and a regular laptop) and comes with an active digitizer from Wacom.
Truc at GottaBeMobile compares it to the 12.1″ Fujitsu LifeBook T2010. Linda at TabletPc2 was impressed with the hinge and display, and running the Windows Vista Experience Index, her T5010 turned up a 3.8 with 2.4GHz Intel P8600.

20 Million Intel Atoms in 2008, Sony and Fujitsu Netbooks
August 22, 2008
DigiTimes is reporting that Intel is going to ship 20 million Atom CPUs this year. Yes, that’s right, 2008. With the majority going into netbooks, that’s pretty impressive.
The news comes from a report published by the Chinese-language Commercial Times, and it says that Intel is also expanding its Atom manufacturing capacity.
The report also mentions that Sony and Fujitsu will be jumping into the netbook market later this year (in the fourth quarter).
We had reports back in June that Sony would be doing something based on VIA’s OpenBook reference design and just this week Akihabara News reported that there would be a Fujitsu netbook with an Intel Atom later this year.
Meanwhile, PC World mentions that Asustek is still pushing the Intel Celeron M 353 CPU in some of its products and will continue to do so for while due to Atom shortages. They are using the Atoms they do receive for the Eee PC 901, and Eee PC 1000 and 1000H models.
Fujitsu LifeBook U2010 aka LOOX U/B50N in Japan + Fujitsu Netbook
August 21, 2008
Akihabara News got a hands-on look at the Intel Atom-powered 5.6-inch Fujitsu LifeBook U2010, akak the LOOX U/B50N (aka U820). They worked with the 60GB HDD version, rather than the 64GB Solid State Drive (SSD) version.
They mentioned that the 4-cell battery provides for 11.1 hours of use.
This is really interesting: “We asked Fujitsu when they’ll release a notebook like Asus’ EeePC or the MSI Wind. Apparently, a new notebook should be available next fall with an Intel Atom processor (probably the same as the LifeBook U2010), Windows XP, but without a SSD drive.“
Pocketables has pictures of a few different models, including some special edition models. They report a starting price of around $1125 USD.

Fujitsu LifeBook U2010 / U820 - Colors
August 11, 2008
With the recent press release a few days ago concerning the 5.6-inch Intel Atom-powered Fujitsu LifeBook U820 / U2010, one of the interesting things to come out of it was that Fujitsu LifeBook was adding several colors to help brighten up the lineup.
This also helped differentiate it from its predecessor, the Fujitsu LifeBook U1010 / U810, as the U2010 represents a large change in the direction of the U-series, including a move to the Intel Atom platform.
They’ve been nice enough to send up some sample images representing the new colors.
The colors are:
- Ocean Black
- Pink Gold
- Cool Silver
- Fuchsia Red
- Luminous Blue

Fujitsu LifeBook U2010 / U820 Press Release
August 8, 2008
The day after the Fujitsu LifeBook U2010 / U820 was spotted at the FCC, a formal press release was issued by Fujitsu PC Asia Pacific.
We wondered about the FM module that featured so prominently in the FFC filings - turns out it’s there to allow you to use the U2010 to broadcast over nearby radios.
It does indeed have a 1280×800 resolution on its 5.6-inch display. They’ve upgraded the color selection to five colors: Ocean Black, Pink Gold, Cool Silver, Fuchsia Red and Luminous Blue. It has a 1.3MP webcamera and the Bluetooth connectivity has been upgraded to version 2.1. It appears to have a 1.8″ drive - storage options are 60GB normal/conventional, or 64GB SSD.
Battery life has been given a boost, with up to 8 hours using the 4-cell battery and 64GB SSD option (the Intel Atom helps as well).
