Fujitsu LifeBook T5010 - First Impressions (GBM, TabletPC2)
August 22, 2008
Earlier this week, GottaBeMobile and TabletPc2 published their first impressions / first look at the new 13.3-inch convertible Fujitsu LifeBook T5010.
The T5010 is Fujitsu’s flagship convertible ultraportable (converting between a Tablet PC-like form factor and a regular laptop) and comes with an active digitizer from Wacom.
Truc at GottaBeMobile compares it to the 12.1″ Fujitsu LifeBook T2010. Linda at TabletPc2 was impressed with the hinge and display, and running the Windows Vista Experience Index, her T5010 turned up a 3.8 with 2.4GHz Intel P8600.

HP EliteBook 2730p Video (Notebooks.com)
August 19, 2008
Notebooks.com has a video from Hewlett-Packard’s Kyle Thorton showing off the new features from the HP EliteBook 2730p, including the traditional buttons that had been missing in the 2710p (screen rotation, ESC) as well as desired by end users (jog dial).
The stylus/pen garage has been changed, including a dual-action/”Double-Clutch” system that keeps the pen inside the 2730p even if it’s shaken.
He also shows off the new touchpad which was missing in the 2710p. The mouse buttons are pretty slick looking - they are carved out of the same stainless steel piece as the chassis/palm rest, so it’s one continous piece of stainless steel.

Press Release: HP 2730p, 2530p, 2230s
August 18, 2008
HP has put out its official press release about their new line of 12.1″ ultraportables, the convertible (Tablet PC) HP EliteBook 2730p, the HP Compaq 2230s (both of which had been previously announced earlier this month and last month), as well as the newly-announced HP EliteBook 2530p.
While the HP Compaq 2230s is already available (it’s their budget-oriented laptop out of the lineup), the 2730p (starting at $1670 USD) and 2530p (starting at $1499 USD) won’t be available until early September, 2008.
From the press release and the specifications, it’s pretty clear they are going after a more durable laptop:
Inspired by aircraft construction and designed for style-conscious mobile professionals, the HP EliteBook 2530p features the sleek and durable HP DuraCase – a brushed, anodized aluminum exterior casing combined with a magnesium alloy chassis that is engineered to pass several military-standard durability tests such as extreme temperature, dust and humidity.
As well as a more secure laptop (with an eye towards how to deal with your data when you recycle your laptop within your company or in regards to disposal):

HP EliteBook 2530p - Announced
August 18, 2008
It was just about a month ago that word came out about the HP 2730p. Now it looks like HP’s 12.1-inch replacement for the HP Compaq 2510p is good to go. It’s the HP EliteBook 2530p and it’s seen a fairly major upgrade.
It offers both Low Voltage and Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) CPUs, which extends the battery life quite a bit. On top of that, there are options of 3-cell, 6-cell, and 9-cell batteries. It also takes from 1GB - 8GB of RAM (2 slots) - note though, that you’ll need to be running a 64-bit version of Windows in order to take advantage of that.
It looks like they take both 1.8″ and 2.5″ Serial ATA drives, and they are offering an 80GB Solid State Drive (SSD) in 1.8″, which is a welcome addition from others offering 32GB or 64GB.
Going by the Korean page, HP is claiming the 2530p meets MIL-STD 810F standards (US military standards for temperature and dust) which means these have seen some durability improvements (or at least for outdoor conditions). They are very durable when the SSD is added into the mix.
They are also listed as compatible with SuSe Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 (SLED 10).

Lenovo ThinkPad X200 - Hands On, Review (Slashgear, ThinkPad Today)
August 13, 2008
SlashGear has just published a hands-on of the new 12.1-inch Lenovo ThinkPad X200. They mentioned one of the major things that ThinkPads are known for - the keyboard, which was solid and sturdy (and spill-proof as they point out - liquids are channeled through the machine to drain out of the bottom if accidentally spilled on the laptop). They mention the performance is better than the ThinkPad X300 in some cases, since the X200 is using a more powerful Intel Core 2 Duo CPU.
ThinkPadToday.com published their review of the X200 a few days ago, and were impressed by the build quality and weight as well.
