Asus N10 Revealed
August 22, 2008
Blogee has come up with an exclusive that maybe huge that of an upscale 10.2-inch Asus N10 netbook.
The listed price of €330 - €430 ($488 - $637) - I have a hard time seeing that based on the pricing of their current Eee PC lineup (which is out of line with models from Acer and Lenovo and possibly Dell). $450 - $600 would get you a lesser Eee PC than an N10, so either the price is right and Asustek is going to drop the prices on the Eee PC line, or the price is wrong and will be higher.

Win a Lenovo IdeaPad S10 or Voodoo Envy 133
August 22, 2008
Would you like a chance at winning a 10.2″ Lenovo IdeaPad S10 netbook or perhaps a high-end 13.3″ Voodoo Envy 133?
Xavier over at Notebooks.com sent us a note about a survey and some drawings they are doing. They are conducting a survey on recent or planned notebook purchases, including whether color matters to you.
They are giving away one Voodoo Envy 133 (worth $2199). It’s got a 1.8GHz CPU, 80GB HDD, and has the black carbon fiber finish (video is up on the site showing the specific Voodoo Envy 133).
They are also giving away three IdeaPad S10s (worth around $430 apiece).
You must have completed and submitted the survey by September 3rd, and eligible winners will be notified by email by September 16th. Unfortunately it’s only for US residents.

Acer Drops Pricing on Aspire One, Intros New Model
August 22, 2008

Yesterday I talked about netbook pricing and how Acer (and Lenovo) seemed to have hit the sweet spot with prices for their netbooks hovering around $375 - $430.
Well, and I swear I had no prior knowledge of this, Acer has decided to drop the prices across the board today, on the 8.9″ Acer Aspire One. These are some major price drops - $50 USD.
They’ve also introduced a new model with a 160GB HDD and a 6-cell battery for $399.
Acer Aspire One AOA150-1447: $399
– Windows XP Home, 160GB HDD, 6-cell battery, probably 1GB of RAM
Acer Aspire One AOA150-1570: $349 (orig $399)
– Windows XP Home, 1GB RAM, 120GB HDD, 3-cell battery
Acer Aspire One AOA110-1722: $329 (orig $379)
– Linpus Linux Lite, 512MB RAM, 8GB SSD, 3-cell battery
Some online retailers are already reflecting the new prices - MWave.com is one of the first to drop prices on some of the existing models (the AOA110-1295 which looks to be the same as the AOA110-1772).

Dell Inspiron 910 in the Wild, With Ubuntu
August 22, 2008
Somebody over at Engadget has spotted the 8.9″ Dell Inspiron 910 in the wild and they’ve posted a few photos.
Interestingly enough, it appears like it has a new keyboard than what we’ve seen in the past (although still lacking the function keys, which were merged with the numeric row).
It’s running Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy) running the 2.6.24.19 Linux kernel (Arstechnica ran an article about it earlier this week). It’s got 512MB of RAM, and it looks like it’s probably the 12GB SSD verion.
It was reported that today (August 22nd) would be the release date, but Dell’s been quiet.

20 Million Intel Atoms in 2008, Sony and Fujitsu Netbooks
August 22, 2008
DigiTimes is reporting that Intel is going to ship 20 million Atom CPUs this year. Yes, that’s right, 2008. With the majority going into netbooks, that’s pretty impressive.
The news comes from a report published by the Chinese-language Commercial Times, and it says that Intel is also expanding its Atom manufacturing capacity.
The report also mentions that Sony and Fujitsu will be jumping into the netbook market later this year (in the fourth quarter).
We had reports back in June that Sony would be doing something based on VIA’s OpenBook reference design and just this week Akihabara News reported that there would be a Fujitsu netbook with an Intel Atom later this year.
Meanwhile, PC World mentions that Asustek is still pushing the Intel Celeron M 353 CPU in some of its products and will continue to do so for while due to Atom shortages. They are using the Atoms they do receive for the Eee PC 901, and Eee PC 1000 and 1000H models.
Viliv S7: Announced
August 21, 2008
UMPC Portal has posted some photos and videos of a brand new little netbook / ultraportable that was demonstrated at the Fall 2008 Intel Developer Forum. It’s the 7″ Viliv S7. It’s a convertible with a touchscreen - the 1024×600 display rotates / swivels around to convert from a normal laptop form factor to a Tablet PC form factor. It’s powered by an Intel Atom SLT 1.3GHz, 1.6GHz, or a 1.8GHz.
It’s similar in size to the 7″ convertible Kohjinsha SR Series and similar in form factor to the 8.9″ Gigabyte M912 .
Features:
- Optional HSDPA, 3G, GPS (SiRF), WiMax (Wibro)
- Internal DMB TV Functions
- H.264 1080i (Vista) and 720p support
Dimensions:
Width: 8.98 inches / 228 mm
Depth: 5.7 inches / 145 mm
Height: 0.98 inches / 25 mm
Weight: 1.83 pounds / 0.83 kg
I’m a little surprised by the claims of 9 hours of movie playback as well as the H.264/1080i support. I am curious to see the benchmarks when they become available.
