Everex Cloudbook - 10.2-inch Models, Updated Release of 8.9 Max
July 1, 2008
PC Advisor is reporting that Everex is planning an even larger netbook / sub-notebook type of device, sometime in November of this year, with a 10.2-inch display.
In addition, they maybe accelerating the release of their 8.9-inch Everex Cloudbook Max to the end of August for Japan and Taiwan, and September for the US (instead of later in the year as originally reported), with a WiMax-version due in September.
The 3G options (HSDPA and HSUPA) leave the “mini-laptop” open to bundling with a 3G contract (and perhaps a cheaper price up front).
The information is said to come from First International Computer (FIC), who manufacturers the 7-inch Everex CloudBook and one curious note is that instead of strictly staying with a VIA C7-M 1.6GHz CPU, Everex has opted for a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU as well, with a slower VIA CPU.
Models:
- CE2A1 - 1.2GHz Via C7-M, 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD (Taiwan for around NT$14,000 (£230, $460))
- CW0A1 - 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, Windows XP, (Taiwan for around NT$15,000).

Dell Latitude E Series (E4200, E4300) - Announcement Coming?
June 30, 2008
It would appear that we will soon be seeing full information (and release dates) for the Dell Latitude E series - the Latitude E4200 and Latitude E4300. This, according to an official appearance of the “Laitude E-Family Laptops!” on Dell.com.
The E4300 will probably have a 13.3-inch display and possibly be a replacement for the Latitude D430 (which, while the D430 has a smaller display, the e4300 actually weighs less).
The E4200 will probably have a 12.1-inch widescreen display, start at 2.2 pounds (1kg) weight-wise), and could be the high-end version of this series (with the E4300 being a reasonably-priced version of the D430).
Both should have DisplayPort (an upgrade for video connections), eSATA, and should be based on Intel’s Centrino 2 platform.
Engadget believes that based on the appearance at Dell.com, that there will be an official announcement sometime in the next five weeks .

Lenovo ThinkPad SL300 - Official
June 24, 2008
Looks like Lenovo officially acknowledged yesterday, the existence of the Lenovo ThinkPad SL300, a small-business oriented laptop, and the smallest member of a new ThinkPad line.
We first heard about the SL series ThinkPad X61 have. It’s also missing a few other features (the infamous Think Light, Ultrabay, etc.), but it will allow for 4-cell to 9-cell batteries, which depending on what Intel Core 2 Duo CPU is running, should provide plenty of battery life (no word on weight when the 9-cell battery is installed).
It does offer a few things previous ThinkPads did not - a lower price, an online backup service, and an HDMI out port.
More details as well as model numbers and model pricing, will be announced in the coming weeks.

Toshiba Portege R500-S5007V Announced
June 24, 2008
While I would take issue with Akihabara’s announcement that the new model of the Toshiba Portege R500 is “The World’s First Laptop with 128GB SSD” (since Toshiba announced the Portege R500-12Q for European customers back in April), it’s still a good sign that Toshiba is releasing more R500s with 128GB Solid State Drives (SSDs), especially as this model is targeted towards North American users.
In fact, this appears to be the first ultraportable laptop in North America with a 128GB SSD. It does appear to be identical to the Toshiba Portege R500-12Q.
Specifications:
- 12.1-inch LED-backlit display
- Transflective display for outdoor viewing
- Intel Core 2 Duo U7700 Ultra Low Voltage CPU (1.33GHz)
- 2GB Memory
- Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics

- 2.4 pounds
- Internal DVD Writer
- Meets EPEAT Gold laptop and Energy Star 4.0 standards
- More than 8 hours battery life (depending on configuration)
- 32-bit Windows Vista Business
You do pay a price for that 128GB of storage: $2,999

More and more information is being found about the Fujitsu LifeBook T5010 (which was apparently leaked through a Virginia Tech bookstore website).
It’s a “convertible” Tablet PC / laptop (the LED-backlist display swivels around and lays down on the keyboard, turning it into a Tablet PC). Although it has a 13.3-inch widescreen display, it looks like it’s positioned to replace the Fujitsu LifeBook T4220 as the measurements and weight are fairly close.
Features:
- LED-Backlit Display
- Active Digitizer
- Intel Core 2 Duo 45nm CPU
- 2GB of DDR3 Memory running at 1066MHz
- Wireless - 802.11n functionality
- Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR

Width: 12.5 inches / 317.5 mm
Depth: 9.6 inches / 243.8 mm
Height: 1.4 inches / 35.6 mm
Weight: 4.4 pounds / 2 kg
Based on the bookstore website, it looks to be available sometime in July or August and at least for educational students, is priced at around $2000 USD.
