Acer Aspire One – WiMAX

Netbook Almost a month ago, at an Acer global press conference held in Budapest, Acer made some announcements in regards to where it was going to be expanding the 8.9″ Aspire One lineup. Among those announcements and discussions, were that 3G options would be added in some areas as early as this month, while Acer planned on adding WiMAX capabilities by 2009.

Well guess what? Mark Spoonauer at LAPTOP Magazine managed to temporarily get his hands on what maybe the first netbook (or at least one of the first) to officially have Mobile WiMAX capabilities. Officially in the sense that some netbook owners have already been modding their netbooks to add in this or similar capabilities.

MSI Wind U120 – Images, Information

MSI Wind PC Recently we learned about new models in the MSI Wind lineup that would be coming to the US (and probably Canada) either later this year or into next.

Fudzilla managed to get their hands on some images from one of those upcoming models, the 10.2″ MSI Wind U120 netbook, as well as some additional information.

We already know the U120 (possibly the Wind 2) is going to be available sometime in December (for under $600 USD), and will feature a slightly different design (meant to be more “business-like”) as well as Solid State Drive (SSD) options.

Lenovo Upgrading S10, Dropping Prices

Lenovo IdeaPad S10 The Lenovo IdeaPad S10 netbook is barely even out (people just started receiving their S10s in the past few weeks) and already it appears that Lenovo is tweaking some things.

First off, they’ve dropped the price by $40 down to $399 at the US online store (except for the red model). $399 now gets you:
– 1.6Ghz Intel Atom CPU
– 512MB RAM
– Windows XP Home
– 80GB HDD
– 3-cell battery

Toshiba Portege M750, R600, A600 Announced

Toshiba Portege M750 Toshiba Canada has announced several new ultraportable Portege models, all with 12.1″ LED-backlit displays, including a “convertible” Tablet PC / laptop. All are loaded with Microsoft Windows Vista and are based on Intel’s Centrino 2 platform, with Intel GMA X4500 graphics. While the R600 and M750 are replacing existing 12.1″ laptops, the A600 is the first of its kind in Toshiba’s lineup with a 12.1″ display. The A600 is kind of a budget laptop compared to the other two (with a starting price of around $1320 USD) – while the R600 may share some of the same components, it is lighter and overall smaller than the A600. All three have spill-resistant keyboards

Asustek’s Goals for Netbooks, S101s

Asus Eee PC S101 According to sources that DigiTimes has talked to, as well as Asustek’s president, Asustek has some very ambitious plans for the new 10.2″ Asus Eee PC S101 as well as their netbooks in general.

Asustek Computer believes they can ship 50,000 S101s this month (a pretty impressive price – they are talking upwards of $35 million USD in revenue). This is before the S101 has even been launched in Japan or Europe (which is set to happen later this month). Asustek’s President, Jerry Shen, thinks the S101 will account for around 10% of Eee PCs that are shipped by the end of 2008, and that overall they’ll ship 700,000 Eee PCs (from 7″ through 10″) in October of 2008.
