Lenovo IdeaPad Lite S9 and S10 at FCC

August 18, 2008

Lenovo IdeaPad Lite S9 In a positve sign that they are nearing availability, both the 8.9-inch Lenovo IdeaPad Lite S9 and the 10.2-inch Lenovo IdeaPad S10 have shown up at the FCC.

Some interesting notes:
- Manufactured by Quanta Computer, Inc.
- Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR (probably optional)
- Models listed: 4067, 4068, 4187, 4231, 20013, 20014, 20015
- Hard Drive and Memory are in a user-accessible compartment on the bottom
- Wireless module is Broadcom BCM94312MCG

The good news for us - we get to see a lot of details, including the internal bits and pieces that make up these upcoming netbooks.

Keep in mind the photos shown are not of the final product that will be shipping (hence the weird coloring on some parts of the IdeaPads). The S9 and S10 also share many common parts and chassis, so many of the photos apply to both.

Lenovo IdeaPad Lite S9 - More Details

August 17, 2008

Lenovo IdeaPad Lite S9 Looks like Lenovo has an upcoming promotional event going on for the 8.9″ Lenovo IdeaPad Lite S9, at least in Hong Kong (and yes, it looks like they have adapted the “Lite” moniker to differentiate from the 10.2″ Lenovo IdeaPad S10).

They are even going to have a special promotional price of around $260 USD (HK$ 1933) if you meet certain conditions (normal price listed is HK$ 2899 ($370 USD)

The flash promo mentions “Multi-Touch” prominently.

Some of the specifications mentioned about this ultraportable sub-laptop / netbook:
- 4GB Solid State Drive (SSD) (8GB mentioned elsewhere)
- Linux OS
- 3-cell battery

I’m guessing there will be more expensive models that have 8GB SSD (and bigger) along with Windows and 6-cell batteries, and that this is a special promotional model.

Lenovo ThinkPad X301 Announced

August 16, 2008

Lenovo ThinkPad X301 About two weeks ago, a website (hknotebook.com) mentioned the Lenovo ThinkPad X200 Tablet (or X200T). This got a lot of people talking, but lost in the hoopla was the same site listing a Lenovo ThinkPad X301 (along with the Lenovo ThinkPad X200s). A few of us wondered if this was an Asia-only version of the 13.3-inch Lenovo ThinkPad X300, if it was a misprint (didn’t seem like it given the specs), or if it was going to be something similar to the ThinkPad X61s setup.

It looks like it’s a stand-alone ultraportable, in the same vein as the X300. Yesterday, a few sites got wind of the X301 officially being announced this coming monday (August 18, 2008).

Lenovo’s press release claims that it’s nearly 20% better performance-wise, by moving to the fastest DDR3 memory available as well as a new Intel Core 2 Duo CPU. The HKBU website that orginally unveiled the X200 Tablet as well as the Lenovo ThinkPad X200s lists the CPU as the Intel SU9400, which is a 1.4GHz Ultra-Low Voltage (ULV) “Penryn-3M”, 45nm, with 3MB of L2 Cache and an 800MHz FSB and a really low TDP of 10W. A new SSD option has been added as well - 128GB, as well as a DisplayPort port.

Outside of new CPU, new external display options, and new storage options, the overall design remains basically the same.

The release date for the Intel SU9400 is September, 2008, but Lenovo is claiming that the X301 will be available on August 26, with a starting price of $2,599.

No word on release of the ThinkPad X200s - like the X301, it’s CPU (SL9300) is not slated to be released by Intel until September, 2008.

Lenovo ThinkPad X200 - Hands On, Review (Slashgear, ThinkPad Today)

August 13, 2008

Lenovo ThinkPad X200 SlashGear has just published a hands-on of the new 12.1-inch Lenovo ThinkPad X200. They mentioned one of the major things that ThinkPads are known for - the keyboard, which was solid and sturdy (and spill-proof as they point out - liquids are channeled through the machine to drain out of the bottom if accidentally spilled on the laptop). They mention the performance is better than the ThinkPad X300 in some cases, since the X200 is using a more powerful Intel Core 2 Duo CPU.

ThinkPadToday.com published their review of the X200 a few days ago, and were impressed by the build quality and weight as well.

Lenovo Olympic Ads and Laptops

August 11, 2008

Lenovo ThinkPad X200 If you’ve watched the Olympics for any amount of time (something that’s not hard to do given how many hours are being broadcast this time around), you may have seen some interesting commercials from Lenovo.

Over on Lenovo Connections, they’ve posted YouTube videos of all of the ads that Lenovo has been running.

I will admit to having seen the ad for the Lenovo ThinkPad X300. It’s the “sumo” ad in case you missed it, and it was a.. unique to say the least. There are also ads for the ThinkPad X200 as well as the ThinkPad SL Series (SL300, etc.).

If you head over there, you can also vote on which is your favorite. Offbeat, but cool to see advertising for ultraportables on TV.
