Lenovo IdeaPad S10 with Solid State Drive

September 27, 2008

Lenovo IdeaPad S10 So what happens if you take the 10″ Lenovo IdeaPad S10 netbook and add a Solid State Drive (SSD)??

That’s exactly what Avram Piltch over at LAPTOP Magazine’s blog did, and they found it improved performance and battery life quite a bit.

Keep in mind that the SSD they used is considered the “world’s fastest consumer SSD”. It’s the Intel X25-M SSD. They tested Windows XP boot time, file transfer speeds, and battery life, and there were very measurable changes with all three, especially with boot times and and file transfers.

Lenovo IdeaPad S10 - Reviewed (LAPTOP Mag)

September 25, 2008

Lenovo IdeaPad S10 LAPTOP Magazine has posted their review of the 10.2″ Lenovo IdeaPad S10 netbook. They’ve also posted some unboxing information as well as a video.

It definitely has one of the better designs for an Intel-Atom based netbook, but they do point out that they didn’t receive their S10 through normal channels, so what you get in the box and the looks of certain things maybe slightly different.

In the unboxing article, they mention that Lenovo included OneKey Rescue software (pre-installed) - this allows you to create a recovery disc (assuming you have an external USB optical drive).

As far as the review - they mention that the touchpad has full multi-touch capabilities. They also mention that the heat, at least with the unit they tested, wasn’t as bad as reported earlier this month.

Now that they are shipping (at least the white S10s), we should start to see more show up in the wild.

Lenovo IdeaPad S10 - Some Shipping

September 25, 2008

Lenovo IdeaPad S10 We’ve had a few emails from people today who mention that their pre-orders of the 10″ Lenovo IdeaPad S10s have had the dates changed to later in October (almost a month from now to be exact).

We also had an email from somebody who said their S10 has actually shipped.

From what we’ve seen from these people and from sites like Slickdeals, It appears this might be what is happening:

- White S10: Some shipping this week, some people have received them.
- Red S10: Shipping changed to around October 20
- Black S10: Shipping changed to around October 23

If you have had your S10 ship, or have in fact received it (or will be), you can leave a comment (no login/etc. required) or contact us.

Lenovo ThinkPad X200T Availability

September 23, 2008

Lenovo ThinkPad X200 Tablet The new 12″ convertible widescreen Lenovo ThinkPad X200T Tablet has started showing up in the Lenovo store for US customers as the model 7448 (alongside the older X61 Tablet). This is the first major redesign of the ThinkPad Tablet series (the transition to widescreen).

It starts with a 1 year depot warranty, and there are additional warranty options available. The 8-cell battery will set you back an additional $50, however given that it doubles the battery life, it’d be well worth it. As far as the MultiTouch + MultiView display - that’s an additional $275 - that pushes the price up quite a bit, but fans of MultiTouch will want it.

It’s available at:
- Shop.Lenovo.com - ThinkPad X Series Tablet.

The models available ship in 1-2 weeks, and the starting price is lower than what had initially been announced - $1,844.00

Specifications for the base model:
- Intel Core 2 Duo SU9300 (1.2GHz, 3 MB L2)
- 800 MHz FSB
- Standard WideView WXGA Display
- Windows Vista Business 32-bit
- 1GB DDR3 RAM (1 DIMM)
- 5400rpm 80GB HDD
- ThinkPad 11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter III
- 4-Cell Battery
- 1 year depot warranty

The SU9300 is an Ultra-Low Voltage (ULV) CPU. You can upgrade that to a low voltage CPU (along with other options below).

Lenovo ThinkPad X200 Tablet Review (LAPTOP Mag)

September 22, 2008

Lenovo ThinkPad X200 Tablet LAPTOP Magazine has reviewed the new 12″ convertible Lenovo ThinkPad X200T Tablet, and were impressed enough to give it their “LAPTOP Magazine Editor’s Choice” award, with a 4 out of 5 stars.

They mention that it still sticks with traditional ThinkPad keyboard design: “The X200 Tablet sports a full-size, spill-resistant keyboard, which of course has the comfortable, tried-and-true ThinkPad design; the keys are very responsive and seem almost to leap back up to meet your fingers. As with the ThinkPad X200, Lenovo has eschewed its usual TrackPoint-and-touchpad combination in favor of only a TrackPoint to streamline the system.”

They also mention that left-handed users should enjoy the X200T - Unlike X61, the display can swivel all the way around, allowing for left-handed users to feel comfortable.

Using an eight-cell battery, their test model was able to get almost six hours of use (and this is not using an ultra low voltage (ULV) CPU - that option will be available later on).
