Site Update

April 30, 2007

Over the last week, you’ve noticed a lack of activity - we’ve been working on an upgrade to the site that should go live later this week.

We are working on three major things:
1) An upgrade to the layout - easier to read and find information.
2) Updating and fact-checking the information present, as well as adding anything we’ve missed.
3) A full specification (size, weight, price, cpu, etc.) comparison of all laptops list on the site. This is probably the most important thing being done and is the most time consuming - it should have been done long ago.

- Thanks for your patience

There is NOT a Core 2 Duo ThinkPad X60 Tablet PC Available (yet)

April 4, 2007

Lenovo ThinkPad X60 Tablet GottaBeMobile.com has clarified that there is not a Intel Core 2 Duo version of the Lenovo ThinkPad X60 Tablet available. For a while the Core 2 Duo options were available on Lenovo’s ThinkPad X60 site.

GottaBeMobile had this to say: Our sources at Lenovo have contacted us tonight and told us that this is apparently a mistake with their website and that there are no Core 2 Duo Thinkpad X60’s available as of this moment.

So, obviously there is some confusion going on at Lenovo and we are trying to track it down as best we can. We’ll update as we find out something concrete but in the meantime, somebody’s got some sp’lainin to do.

I think they were on to something, it’s just a matter of time until the Core 2 Duo ThinkPad X60 Tablets come out - it seems unlikely they would wait on the next generation of Intel CPUs.

Office 2007 Public Beta (Beta 2)

May 24, 2006

If you are curious about the new features of Microsoft Office 2007, there is now a Public Beta available, that will allow you to use Office 2007 Beta 2 and its components (Visio, Publisher, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.). It has a brand-new interface, and places much more emphasis on collaboration.

You can obtain it and the beta keys here: Microsoft.com - Office Preview.

eWeek.com has an extensive review/look at Office 2007 beta 2:

eWEEK Labs’ evaluation of Microsoft’s Office 2007 Beta 2 unearthed compelling features and tools, and reminded us why enterprises continue to rely on the productivity suite.

During tests of the second beta of Office 2007, we were impressed with the suite’s collaboration features. In fact, we believe they will be the impetus for dedicated Windows shops to upgrade when Office 2007 ships later in 2006. The suitewide attention to collaboration will enable users and enterprises as a whole to work with information in new and more creative ways.

Epson Adds More Cases/Designs for Endeavor NT350

May 23, 2006

Epson Endeavor NT350

Epson has added more versions/case designs for its Epson Endeaver NT350 ultraportable notebook. The NT350 has a a 12.1-inch display with an Intel Celeron M or Pentium M. They have a Disney line of designs already. This is just one more way for them to stand out I suppose - Dell and others offer similar designs for some of their notebooks, although I believe they are using 3rd parties.

The NT350 is only available in Japan/Asia at this time.

Projects: Rebuilding a Lithium-Ion Laptop Battery

May 18, 2006

If you have been getting less than stellar performance out of your laptop’s Lithium-Ion battery, have a background in electronics (or like to think you do) and like do-it-yourself projects, Electronics Lab may have just the project for you - rebuilding a Li-Ion battery. Basically, for a lot less than the cost of buying a replacement battery, you can replace the cells inside of your existing battery pack.

Keep in mind the following warning:

But before step on this you must consider many parameters messing around Li-Ion batteries, about the way they are charged and the way you must handle them.

Special precautions must be taken to avoid Li-Ion battery fire up or explosion that can cause serious injuries. This is because Lithium when comes in contact with water or air’s moisture burns violently. Never try to extinguish such a fire with water! but only with suitable extinguisher.

May 6, 2006

Sometime yesterday, the software that caches the site (and speeds things up) got hung up on a file, and so the site was looking very weird. It’s fixed. Sorry if it inconvenienced anybody.
