Fujitsu LifeBook (U2010) U820 at the FCC
August 5, 2008
The 5.6-inch Fujitsu LifeBook U2010 is headed to North America as the Fujitsu LifeBook U820. It has been submitted to the FCC and is awaiting their approval.
It has quite a few updates over its predecessor, the Fujitsu LifeBook U810:
- Display is 1280×800 instead of 1024×600
- Using Intel Atom CPU
- Change in keyboard - 6 rows instead of 5
- Optional built-in 3.5G and GPS Modules
- Atheros Wireless
- Realtek Ethernet
It was referred to as both U210 and U820, and overall as part of the Fujitsu LifeBook U SEries. The product # was FPC02163AK and the part # was CP390505.
There was an FM transmitter mentioned prominently in the FCC filing (from 89MHz to 98MHz). What the purpose of it is, I’m not sure yet.
The user’s manual was posted as well.

Dell Latitude E Series - E4200, E4300, XT2 - More Info
July 29, 2008
It’s been a month since we last heard any more information about the upcoming ultraportable Dell Latitude E Series, namely the 12.1-inch Dell Latitude E4200 and the 13.3-inch Dell Latitude E4300.
Well, Engadget has once again turned up some PowerPoint presentations, with a much more defined roadmap for where the Latitude E series is headed and when we can expect to start seeing them become available.
Availability looks to be in September of 2008, with three colors for each: Regatta Blue, Royal Red, Quartz Pink. The Dell Latitude D430 (which is being replaced by the E4200 and E4300) will continue to be available until January of 2009, so there will be some overlap - about five months.
A side note: the Dell Latitude XT2 convertible Tablet PC, the sequel to the 12.1-inch Dell Latitude XT, is listed as being available in January or February of 2009.
While much of the information was already known, there are some interesting new highlights:

Gigabyte M912 Unboxed, Overview (UMPCPortal)
July 24, 2008
UMPCPortal has gotten their hands on a “convertible” ultraportable 8.9-inch laptop (or netbook), the Gigabyte M912. By convertible, we mean that the touchscreen display can rotate around and allows for either a Tablet PC form factor or a conventional laptop form factor.
They will be putting the M912 through its paces, live on video, 6pm GMT, and will be answering questions as well. You can view it at UMPCPortal.com/Live.
This is, unfortunately, not going to be available in North America, unless you go through an importer like Dynamism.

A Mac Tablet This Fall?
July 22, 2008
So is Apple going to finally produce some form of touchscreen Tablet PC? AppleInsider and MacDailyNews both have some interesting news, one in the form of Apple’s quarterly finance call yesterday, and the other in the form of rumors.
AppleInsider reported that Apple’s CFO, Peter Oppenheimer, was planning an important “product transition” sometime between July and September of this year, a transition that will have ramifications going into next year, at least as far as Apple’s profit margains.
This mysterious product will have “technologies and features that others can’t match,” according to Oppenheimer.
