Top 10 Ultraportable/Small Laptops of February 2006

Being that it’s the first of the month, I bring you the Top 10 (11 technically) Ultraportable/Small Laptops of February 2006, based on reader interest. This list is in order.

2) Fujitsu LifeBook P1510D
3) Dell Inspiron 700M
4) Sony VAIO VGN-TX690P
5) Lenovo ThinkPad X60/ThinkPad X60s
6) Toshiba M400 Tablet PC
7) MSI S262
8) Averatec 1050
9) Flybook V3
10) Fujitsu LifeBook P7120

Stats of the list:

* Three were convertibles – they have both a Touchscreen/Tablet PC interface as well as a physical keyboard (LifeBook P1510D, Toshiba M400, Flybook V3).
* Four had displays smaller than 11 inches (Flybook, Fujitsus, Averatec).
* Five were powered by Intel’s new Core Duo/Core Solo CPUs (four if you count the ThinkPad X60 and X60s together) – ASUS W5F, ThinkPad X60/X60s, Toshiba M400, MSI S262.
* Eight returned from the January 2006 list.

You can also view the Top Ultraportable Laptops of January 2006. Last month’s list contained eight laptops that made it into February’s list, in this order:

1)Fujitsu LifeBook P1510D
3)Dell Inspiron 700M
4)Sony VAIO VGN-TX690P
5)Averatec 1050
6) Flybook V3
7) Averatec 3700
8) Fujitsu LifeBook P7120
9) Lenovo ThinkPad X60 and ThinkPad X60s
10) Acer TravelMate TMC204TMi C204

It’s interesting that the top four remained unchanged in February, with the Averatec 1050 being pushed down by new Intel Core Duo laptops – the ThinkPad X60/X60s, Toshiba’s M400 Tablet PC, and MSI’s S262. The Averatec 3700 series and Acer TravelMate C204 were pushed out of the list by the new Toshiba M400 Tablet PC and the MSI S262.
