Averatec has announced their ultraportable 2200 series notebook lineup. It features AMD processors, a 12.1-inch 1280×800 widescreen display, Dual-Layer DVD Burner in all models, and an 80GB or 100GB harddrive, along with up to 2GB of system memory. They weigh in at 4lbs, and look to be available now. The Turion 64 MT-32 CPUs offer both 32-bit and 64-bit features/performance.

Models:

  • 2225-EH1: AMD Mobile AMD Sempronâ„¢ 3300+ (2.0GHz), Windows® XP Home, 80GB HDD, 512MB Memory (Start at $899)
  • 2260-EH1: AMD Turionâ„¢ 64 MT-32 (1.8GHz), Windows® XP Home, 80GB HDD, 512 MB Memory (Start at $949)

Averatec’s other notebook offerings have proven to be very popular, in large part due to the low-price, and small size. To be quite honest, it would appear that the 2225 series is not a good deal, since $50 more will get you the Turion-based series – the Semprons have 128KB L2 Cache versus the Turion’s 512KB L2 Cache. That’s very significant, putting aside processor performance.
