Toshiba has officially announced the Toshiba Satellite U400 / U405 series, which is a replacement for the Toshiba Satellite U300 / U305 series. Back at the beginning of March, it was leaked by an Italian website.
This is a consumer-oriented low-cost ultraportable, with an MSRP starting at $949.99 (USD). It ships this week and retailers are taking orders – Amazon is showing the U405-S2820 at $899.99
It has a 13.3″ widescreen display, and is powered by Intel Core 2 Duo, the Intel Mobile Express 965 (GM965 Express) platform, and Intel X3100 graphics.
The main (noticeable) changes over the U300 / U305 series are a much more subdued finish; Toshiba is calling it a “Fusion†finish with Horizon pattern, and a glossy keyboard with a backlit system, as well as upgraded CPUs, etc.. While details for only one model (U405-S2820) have been released, there will probably be additional models in the following weeks.
Specifications for the U405-S2820 (PSU40U-00W013):
– Windows Vista Home Premium
– Intel Core 2 Duo T500 (1.83GHz, 2MB L2 Cache)
– 2GB Memory
– 250GB Hard Drive
