Mini-notebooks / Sub-notebooks / netbooks – whatever you want to call them, they are hot right now. Turns out it’s not just sales and consumer interest that make them hot – they are also literally hot.
Using a Dell Latitude D630 as a baseline comparison, Joanna Stern over at LAPTOP Magazine took a look at the heat generated by the following ultraportable laptops:
– Asus Eee PC (7″, Intel)
– Everex CloudBook (7″, VIA)
– Asus Eee PC 900 (8.9″, Intel)
– HP 2133 Mini-Note (8.9″, VIA)
Temperature readings were taken on the underside, on the keyboard, and on the touchpads, under various loads (but using the same usage patterns).
The HP 2133 Mini-Note fared the worst with a 114 degrees Fahrenheit reading on the underside near the battery, however it fared better in the keyboard and touchpad tests.
