Jason Jenkins, From Crave UK, spoke with an Asus spokesperson, who did confirm that the 10-inch Asus Eee PC 1000 or 1001 (basically a slightly larger version of the Eee PC 900 and Eee PC 901, will be launched next week at Computex in Taipei, Taiwan. It’ll be available later this year (in the UK – November). No other word on the 10-inch Eee PC.
Speaking of the Ee PC 900, DigiTimes is reporting that Asustek is not taking any more orders for it, and it could be that they are dropping it in favor of the Intel Atom-based Eee PC 901 (set to launch next week as well).
Earlier this month, Asustek President Jerry Shen had made comments that the Eee PC 900 would co-exist with the Eee PC 901, due to an expected shortage of Intel Atom CPUs that would last for a while. It could be that Intel has increased their capacity to meet most of the demands in the coming months, or that the Celeron M-based Eee PC 900 was just not selling well enough due to customers waiting for an Atom version.
