Asus Eee PC to get 3G Connectivity

Asus Eee PC 901 PC World is reporting that Asustek could be shipping Eee PCs with 3G mobile wireless capability as soon as September of this year, at least in Europe.

According to an Asustek company representative, this is in response to other companies offering similar options. A week or so ago, news came out about the ECS G10IL with similar options.

They believe the devices could be bundled with contracts for 3G mobile services from service providers, perhaps with some kind of subsidized deal where they are cheaper than a normal Eee PC, or perhaps to offset the costs and keep them on the same level as non-3G Eee PCs. They mention that the pricing would be based on the service contract (probably either based on features or length).

No official word on just what Eee PCs will have this option. It would make sense for the 10-inch Eee PC 1000 series, given that it has the room inside, as well as some of the 8.9-inch Eee PC series.
