Sony VAIO VGN TZ Series – Some Recalls

Sony VAIO VGN-TZ285N Some of Sony’s 11.1-inch ultraportable VAIO VGN-TZ series laptops are being recalled, according to an announcement by Sony today.

It’s due to a wiring problem affecting certain TZ lines that could cause minor burns if certain areas are touched (note: no fires have started as a result of this). Potential models could include the following:

Sony VAIO TZ180N
Sony VAIO TZ190N
Sony VAIO TZ191N
Sony VAIO VGN-TZ240N/B
Sony VAIO VGN-TZ250N
Sony VAIO VGN-TZ270N/B
Sony VAIO VGN-TZ285N/RC
Sony VAIO VGN-TZ295N/XC
Sony VAIO VGN-TZ298N/XC

The announcement reads:

Sony takes pride in the quality of its products. Recently, we became aware of a potential issue affecting the following notebook PC models:

* VGN-TZ100 series
* VGN-TZ200 series
* VGN-TZ300 series
* VGN-TZ2000 series

The issue involves a small number of units which may overheat due to a wiring problem. Sony has initiated a voluntary program to perform a free inspection and, if necessary, a repair to ensure these units meet our high quality standards.
