After the buzz of LAPTOP Magazine’s review of the new 10.2″ Samsung NC10 netbook, a lot of people were asking how they were getting over 7 hours of battery life with the 6-cell battery. This is with WiFi on. Before that, the most they had gotten out of a netbook was just over 5 hours from a 10.2″ MSI Wind U100.
They re-ran the test at 100% brightness, and were still able to get 4 hours and 48 minutes.
Joanna Stern has posted an article on their blog concerning just how they got to those figures, and just what is involved in their battery life tests to begin with.
It turns out that due to an error in translation (it was a Korean-language NC10 install), that the brightness was at 12.5% and not 50% like they initially thought. After adjusting for this, at 50% (confirmed), they were able to get a battery life of 6 hours, 34 minutes, and 6 hours, 30 minutes. The figure of around 4 hours and 40 minutes still held true at 100% brightness.
As a result, with the over 6 hours of battery life, the NC10 is currently their netbook of choice.
