In a sign of things to come (hopefully), Dell is now offering a 64GB Solid State Drive (SSD) option for Ubuntu Linux-equipped Inspiron Mini 9 netbooks.
An example configuration of the 8.9″ Intel Atom-powered Inspiron Mini:
– $499 (USD)
– 512MB DDR2 at 533MHz
– Ubuntu Linux version 8.04.1
– 1Yr Ltd Warranty and Mail-In Service
– No camera
– No Bluetooth
$449 would get you the 32GB SSD instead.
Either of those is about as cheap as you’re going to get when you talk about that much storage. Even though the drives are MLC versus SLC, Ubuntu Linux runs well on these ultraportables (and with MLC drives).
You can view the options at the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 page at the Dell Home and Home Office Store.
