It’s been several years since I pushed any news/updates to the site, but I’m getting back into it – there’s a lot of ultraportable 13-inch and under laptops that are being released every year, including brands that many people have never heard of.
There’s also a lot of people searching for information on older laptops, and I’ll get into that in future articles – it’s not merely an influx of people looking for “retro” systems either. We are at a point that even 5 year-old laptops with quad-core CPUs and at least 1080p displays will do just fine for many people, and with USB-C power banks being plentiful (and cheaper), people are going back to laptops that they were comfortable with in the past, or that they wanted.
Right now I’m cleaning up the design and some old stories, fixing broken links, etc., and narrowing down my focus – it would be easy to say 12-inch displays and smaller, but my ThinkPad X1 Nano has a 13-inch display, and it’s arguably smaller than any ultraportable/12-inch I’ve had in the past. On top of that with the ThinkPad X1 Carbon clocking in at less than 2.5 pounds, and with some of the Dell 13-inch and 14-inch laptops coming in at that weight, what “ultraportable” means should probably be discussed/revised. I have a 14-inch ThinkPad X1 Carbon (6th gen) and even with its display, it’s much more portable than most of my older 13-inch laptops.
Anyways, there will be a lot of changes over the coming days, and if anything breaks, contact me!
