Announced: Acer Ferrari 1000 (F1000)

Continiuing with the AMD Turion 64 X2 (Dual Core) upgrade that many AMD-based notebook lines are now receiving, Acer (UK) has announced the Acer Ferrari 1000 (F1000). It is powered by the aforementioned AMD Turion 64 X2, a CPU that was just announced a few weeks ago, and comes with a 12.1-inch “Acer CrystalBrite” display and utilizes ATI’s RADEON XPRESS 1150 graphics chipset (better than many of the integrated graphics chipsets these days). It weighs just over three and a half pounds (1.7kg), and has an “Acer OrbiCam” webcam mounted in the display.

Announced: MSI S271

Micro-Star International (MSI) has announced one of the first AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual Core powered ultraportable notebooks, the MSI S271.

It has a Aluminum/Magnesium Alloy case, weighs around 4 pounds, with a 12.1-inch widescreen “Super Glare” display (i.e. it handles glare better than many other displays) as well as an internal dual-layer DVD Writer. It utilizes an ATI chipset, can handle up to 2GB of DDR2 memory, and has an ATI Radeon Xpress200 for the graphics chipset.

Announced: MSI MEGABOOK MS-1058

MSI is rolling out the MEGABOOK MS-1058, one of the first ultraportables that utilizes AMD’s Turion 64 X2 Dual Core CPU (2.0GHz). It weighs just over four pounds, has a 12.1-inch widescreen display, and up to 2GB of memory. It utilizes ATI’s Radeon Xpress 200M chipset, and looks like it has a choice of ATI graphics options, either the Xpress 200M or X300SE. A DVD-Writer is standard, and it has the choice of a 4-cell or 8-cell battery.

We should start seeing a lot more of these 64-bit dual-core notebooks popping up over the next month or two. The Turion 64 X2 was announced just two days ago, but it looks like MSI already had these in the pipeline. It does utilize DDR2 memory (some some mobile offerings from AMD didn’t), and has more power-saving/conservation features built into the CPU.

No word on availability outside of Japan.
