Last week, Acer announced the new Intel Core Duo-powered Acer TravelMate 3020. We were waiting for more information, but it looks like this is pretty much the same ultraportable notebook as the Acer TravelMate 3010/3012, with only a different case/covering (white-colored in the case of the 3020). It has a 12.1-inch widescreen display, a Serial ATA harddrive, up to 2GB of memory, and utilizes an external DVD writer.
CNET News.com and ArsTechnica both have information on the next major version of Intel’s Core Duo platform, in regards to naming convention.
Intel has dubbed it Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Solo.
Personally, I almost would have preferred Core Duo 2 or Core Solo 2, but either way there could be some confusion, and perhaps at some point the “Duo” and “Solo” monikers will be dropped.
The Lenovo ThinkPad X60s was selected as the best laptop in PC Magazine’s The Best Products of Q1 2006. The ThinkPad X60s is powered by an Intel Core Duo CPU (1.66GHz, Low VoltagE), and has a 12-inch non-widescreen display. It weighs in at around three and a half pounds and has an external optical drive.
Sometime yesterday, the software that caches the site (and speeds things up) got hung up on a file, and so the site was looking very weird. It’s fixed. Sorry if it inconvenienced anybody.
In a very surprising move, Acorn Computers is making a comeback, this time in the area of notebook computers. According to Reg Hardware, Acorn will produce, among other notebooks, a 12.1-inch ultraportable notebook, the Acorn Solo Note that will have a widescreen display, run Windows XP, and include Sun’s Star Office. That’s all we know for now – the rest of the details will be revealed on May 10th, 2006, when the Solo Note, as well as Acorn’s other offerings, are revealed publicly. In addition the company(s) or individual(s) behind this will be revealed as well.
