Looks like when Sony said “We have to participate—, they weren’t kidding, and already had a netbook in the works.
There has been a recent FCC filing for Sony in the US, with a couple of models listed, as well a size and some specifications, listed for what looks to be Sony’s entry into the netbook market. Engadget estimates the size to be around 9.5″ x 4.5″ which really pushes an 8.9″ display (the dimensions seem off for an 8.9″ display, a 7-inch display would be more appropriate).
Models (PCG = VAIO):
– PCG-1P1L
– PCG-1P2L
Specifications/tested:
– Bluetooth
– 802.11b/g/n
– EVDO and HSPA (Qualcomm Gobi Chipset)
– Some form of Windows (according to logo)
Going by the information in the confident requests to the FCC, more information won’t be available until the first part of January 2009 (Jan. 8 to be precise). At that time, the FCC will publish photos and the user manual.
