Top 10 Ultraportable/Small Laptops of April 2006

Once again it’s time for the Top 10 Ultraportable/Small Notebooks of the month, for April 2006. This list is based on reader interest (which is in turn based on page views, links, etc.). Not the most scientific, but surprisingly it’s been fairly consistent. The only major changes occur when a new notebook is released, but unless it’s an outstanding notebook, the list goes back to what it was before.

Fujitsu Lifebook Q2010 in North America (Plus Using Unannounced CPU)

Looks like Fujitsu will be rolling out the Lifebook Q2010 in North America. According to CNET News.com, Fujitsu unveiled the Q2010 to a North American audience, complete with information on the CPU that will be driving the ultraportable high-end laptop (high-end as in very small and expensive). Apparently it’s going to use the same CPU that popped up in the Gateway NX100X – an Ulta Low Voltage (ULV) Intel Core Solo CPU that was not formally announced or promoted by Intel. During the announcement/briefing, a price of $1999 was mentioned, however Fujitsu later said that was not finalized

Announced: Fujitsu Loox P70R or P70S

There are a couple of articles about a “Fujitsu LOOX P705 or P70S” Tablet PC that came out today, but I’ve spent some time looking into it, and what is on Fujitu’s site is information about a Fujitsu LOOX or Loox P70R. This only comes in one color (one of the articles talking about this mentioned nine colors, however that was a reference to their T series). The P70R is an 8.9-inch widescreen laptop powered by a Pentium M Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) 1.2GHz CPU and has up to 1GB of memory. It converts into a Tablet PC and runs Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005.
