Samsung NC10 Benchmarked

October 12, 2008

Samsung NC10 The upcoming 10.2″ Samsung NC10 netbook has been unboxed and benchmarked by a Ukrainian site, Tech IT Easy.

The design looks solid (which we’ve already seen), the sleeve for the NC10 looks nice. The comparison photos against 8.9″ Asus Eee PC 901 show that the keyboard does look nicer.

They were able to get around 2 hours of the 3-cell 2200mAh battery (larger capacity 6-cell batteries will be available) under normal usage. You can see a SIM card slot behind the battery that should allow for several 3G mobile broadband options.

As far as benchmarks (3DMark06, CPUMark 2.1), it did a little better and a little worse (depending on the benchmark) than the Eee PC 901 against which it was measured - this is a given, considering they are both based on the same Intel Atom platform.

Samsung NC10 - Pricing, Details, Photos

October 1, 2008

Samsung NC10 Samsung obviously has big plans for the upcoming 10.2″ Samsung NC10 netbook. Yesterday, an article by What-Laptop came out, as well as a few more photos from Blogeee.net.

Originally listed as starting at £329.99 (around $605 USD), What-Laptop reports that the price will now be £299.99 (around $535 USD). That’s a pretty significant price drop, and pretty aggressive considering that it’s not out yet, and that it’s shaping up to be a very nice netbook and not a budget-oriented one. They are also reporting that at that price, it will now include the 160GB HDD (instead of the 80GB HDD mentioned previously).

Meanwhile, Blogeee.net has posted a clear shot of the NC10’s keyboard, which looks really nice.

Samsung NC10 Netbook

September 19, 2008

Samsung NC10 Well, it’s official - Samsung’s 10″ Intel Atom-powered netbook has now been dubbed the Samsung NC10.

It’s got a few interesting features not found elsewhere - some kind of special coating on the keys to reduce the chances of bacteria growing on them, and the case/chassis has been designed to be more durable than a lot of others in its class.

It will come in three different colors - black, white, and “metallic blue”, and start at £329 ($594 USD), and should be available in October in Europe (UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Russia), Asia (China, Hong Kong, and Korea), and according to Network World, in the United States in November (which is interesting in and of itself - I didn’t expect Samsung to enter the US netbook market).

Specifications:
- 10.2″ 1024×600 LED-lit display
- 1.6GHz Intel Atom.
- 80GB or 160GB HDD
- Optional Bluetooth
- Windows XP Home only

Intel Atom Shortage Over?

September 17, 2008

Toshiba Satellite NB105 DigiTimes has an article up mentioning a few things we already know - mainly that Toshiba will be entering the netbook market later this year with the 10.2″ Toshiba Satellite NB105 and that Samsung will also be entering the market (in October) with a 10.2″ Samsung Netbook as well (still no official name).

Both are based on Intel’s Atom CPU, and both will have conventional 2.5″ Serial ATA (SATA) HDDs, similar to what you see in larger-sized laptops (again, we knew this).

However, the article mentions one very interesting tidbit of information: “the Intel Atom shortage has been resolved“. The shortage has probably held some companies back.

They also mention that a lot of second-tier notebook makes are entering the netbook market in order to boost their brand recognition.
