Review: Acer TravelMate C200/C203 (Cyberlaw Central)

Kevin Thompson, over at Cyberlaw Central has posted a review of the Acer TravelMate C203. The C203 is the new “convertible” from Acer that uses a unique “sliding-track” mechanism to convert from a notebook to a Tablet PC – it happens smoothly in one motion. One thing I didn’t realize, according to Kevin, “Acer provides a cover for the screen that flips around to act as a heat shield for your lap”. Very cool. The C200/C203 has a 12.1-inch screen (non-widescreen) and has the capability to carry two batteries.

Acer Announces Dual-Core/Core Duo 3010 Ultraportable

Acer has announced an Intel Centrino Core Duo (Dual-Core) powered ultraportable notebook. It’s the Acer TravelMate 3010, and it has a 12.1-inch widescreen display. They list it as weighing around 1.5kg, and mention that it has a buit-in camera (including video conferencing software from Acer). It also has some kind of “Anti-Theft” capability (safe to say it’s probably something more than a cable lock).

As I know more, I’ll update the link above.

Top 15 Ultraportable Laptops of 2005

I have compiled a list of the top 15 ultraportable laptops, based on page views here at Ultraportable Laptops and Notebooks. Page views aren’t the most accurate way to gauge what the best laptop is, however they do reflect the amount of interest, and in this case I used both page views of the laptops as well as news stories. It covers October (when we moved to the small-laptops.com domain) through the end of December, 2005, however based on what I’ve read over the past year or so, and the amount of press certain laptops have received, I feel it’s probably fairly accurate – it includes a mix of both older laptops that were refreshed last year as well as new models. Where there were varying models between regions, I’ve taken that into account and added them together (under their most common model name).
