Samsung Enters US Laptop Market (Q310, X360)

Samsung NC10 Samsung is making it official – they are entering the US market, and will be selling through mainstream retailers, including Amazon, Buy.com, and others. We already knew quite a bit about the 10.2″ Samsung NC10 netbook and that it would be coming to the US, but it turns out the NC10 was just a small (no pun intended) part of Samsung’s offerings, which should be available soon.

Samsung has supplied American PC makers in the past with rebadged Samsung laptops (including Dell and some of their 12.1″ ultraportables), but they’ve decided the time is right for them to formally enter the market. They will be marketing their laptops (and themselves) as a “premium band”, including the NC10.

In addition to the NC10 netbook, Samsung introduced a couple of 13.3″ laptops. Both feature a 13.3″ 1280×800 Display (the X360 is LED-backlit), Intel X4500 Graphics, and an HDMI port.

Asus N10 – Available in the US

Asus N10 Three models of the high-end 10.2″ Asus N10 netbook have started showing up at online retailers in the US, including some carrying it in stock as we speak. All are powered by an Intel Atom CPU, and come with 1GB – 2GB of RAM, 160GB – 320GB HDD, and either Windows XP Home or Vista Business or Vista Home Premium.

The N10J features nVidia GeForce 9300M G graphics with 256MB dedicated graphics memory. You can actually switch back and forth between the Intel and nVidia graphics. All feature HDMI ports and Bluetooth.

The N10E might have just a 3-cell battery and it might not have a fingerprint reader.

Asus Eee PC 1000HD at Best Buy

Asus Eee PC 1000HD Last week, I menioned that Asus EEE PC 900As were showing up at Best Buy. Yesterday, I was at another store, and they were preparing to put a Eee PC 900A on display as well.

In today’s ad, they have both the Intel Atom-based 900A and the CeleronM-based 1000HD listed. The 900A is retailing for $329.99 and the 1000HD is retailing for $379.99 (USD).

Keep in mind that these appear to be special versions for Best Buy – they don’t have webcams and the storage is different than what you see elsewhere (for instance, the 1000HD you see at Amazon has a smaller HDD, but does have a webcam – the Best Buy version doesn’t have a webcam). As far as I know it has the same 6-cell battery that other 1000HDs have, but I will be investigating this myself.

The model #s are also unique – in the case of the 1000HD, it’s 1000HD-BKBB1
