Zigzag Designs has put together an interesting collection of laptop patents/inventions that have been filed over the past several years, including some from HP, IBM, and Samsung. Some of the ones with projection displays interested me – if you could work out a small enough projector with a decent resolution and refresh rate, it’s possible you could save weight, size, battery life, or all three (then again, nobody has done it so maybe it’s not possible).
Pocket-lint.co.uk has a published new review of the HP Compaq NC4200, an ultraportable notebook with a 12.1-inch display (non-widescreen) and powered by an Intel Pentium M and Intel’s 915GM chipset. It is one of the notebooks in this size that has a spill-resistant keyboard (which is important to some).
CNET Asia has published a list of their Top 10 Notebooks of January 2006. Interestingly enough, five out of the top 10 were ultraportables – they had 12-inch displays or smaller. The list was based on readership, similar to our Top 5 Ultraportables of January 2006 list.

CNET Asia published their Top 10 Notebooks of December this morning. Interestingly enough, the list had six ultraportables (12-inch screens or less)
A few weeks ago, TabletPCReviewSpot.com published their Fall 2005 Tablet PC Buyer’s Guide. Among the Tablet PC’s mentioned were several of the ultraportables: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad X41 Tablet, the Fujitsu LifeBook 4000 Series, the HP/Compaq TC4200, Fujitsu LifeBook P1510, and the Electrovaya Scribbler 3000.
