Dell Latitude 420 – More Information

Back at the end of March, I mentioned an article from CNET about rumors of a Dell Latitude D420. I also mentioned that the X1 appeared close to being replaced (since then, the X1 was replaced by the XPS M1210), and with the 710M already available, and with Intel’s new Core Duo/Centrino platform becoming widely available, it would only be a matter of time before Dell upgraded the ultraportable Latitude (other Latitude notebooks have already been upgrade).

Announced/Leaked: Dell XPS M1210

Looks like specifications and high-resolution images of the new Dell XPS M1210 have been released. It’s supposedly slated for a mid-May release. Back at the end of March, when the Samsung Q35 was released, we speculated that we might soon see a Dell Latitude X2 (or whatever it will be called). It looks like this might be in effect the Latitude X1’s replacement, instead of a X2, as the specifications are very similar (and a Samsung ultraportable notebook was the basis for the X1).

Dell Inspiron Warranties – Upgraded

According to CNET News.com, Dell is going to be upgrading the limited warranties on its Inspiron lineup (including the Inspiron 710M) from 90 days to one year.

This could be a sign that manufactuers are going to start increasing the length of their warranties, which is a reversal from earlier trends of shortening them.

No word on if this is going to be retroactive for those customers who just recently purchased Inspirons.

Rumors of the Dell Latitude 420

Just a few days ago I mentioned the announcement of the Samsung Q35, which replaced the laptop that was the basis for the Dell Latitude X1.

CNET Asia is reporting that a replacement for the Latitude 410 could be just around the corner. It’s a good candidate for an Intel Core Duo update – it shares some of the same features of the X1, minus the lighter weight and the widescreen display and falls in between the X1 and the consumer-oriented Inspiron 710M (which I could see going with a Intel Core Solo CPU.

This week Dell has announced several major updates to its higher-end and/or larger lineups – the Dell Latitude 620 and 820, and the Precision M65 and M90, all of which received the Intel Centrino platform updates.
