Krunker has news of the new Sony VAIO SZ160P/C – it’s now available for pre-order (@ $2500USD). The SZ160P/C has a 13.3-inch widescreen display, is powered by one of the new Intel Core Duo CPUs (1.83GHz), is less than an inch thick, and weighs only 3.7 pounds (thanks to a carbon fiber case). For storage, it has a 100GB Seria ATA drive and a DVD burner. One of the really unique features of the SZ160P/C is its “Hybrid Graphics System” that allows you to switch between the integrated video chipset, and an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 GPU, which allows you to have more control over battery life.
CNET Asia has published a list of their Top 10 Notebooks of January 2006. Interestingly enough, five out of the top 10 were ultraportables – they had 12-inch displays or smaller. The list was based on readership, similar to our Top 5 Ultraportables of January 2006 list.

Barry Gerber has written an extensive review/comparison in MobilityGuru, Is Toshiba’s U100-S213 The Ultra Lightweight Laptop Champ?, that compares the Toshiba Libretto U100-S213, the Fujitsu LifeBook P1510D, the Dell Latitude X1, and the Sony VAIO VGN-TX670P. Keep in mind that the U100 has a 7.2-inch display and the P1510D has an 8.9-inch display.
